For starters, not all syrups are created equal. In fact, there are lots of different types – some may ring a bell, but this might be the first time you’re hearing about others. With that said, we’re taking a deeper dive into the thick, sugary liquids, below:
You may have seen the artificial stuff in the cereal aisle of your local supermarket, but the real stuff is produced by boiling down the sap of a maple tree. It’s a bit more expensive to get your hands on a bottle of authentic maple syrup, but trust us when we tell you it’s worth it.
This type of syrup pairs very well with certain types of pancakes – any topping that includes bananas or nuts comes to mind. It’s created in beehives and comes in various flavors depending on the flowers from which they were made.
You can make a delicious tropical-tasting syrup for your pancakes by whisking together coconut milk and cornstarch. Pour it into a saucepan, add sugar and bring the mixture to a boil. Allow it to cool before serving and then apply a liberal amount to your pancakes. It goes great with fresh fruit toppings and/or chocolate chips.
Enjoy pecan pie? Why not take your favorite flavor and add it to your breakfast? All you need to do is boil water, add sugar and a handful of fresh pecans. Add a bit of butter and you’ll be coming back for seconds!
