How To Make Your Meals Healthier

Keeping a balanced and healthy diet is one of the most important things to do to in order for your body to function properly. However, most of us tend to lean towards the fried, greasy and fattening foods on a daily basis – with their taste, how could anyone resist? But although these foods aren’t your body’s first choice even if they are yours, the good news is that you can still enjoy them – just replace the bad ingredients with healthier alternatives! Here is how you can make your favorite meals a tad bit healthier the next time around:

Ways to make your meals healthy

Swap “good” fats for “bad” fats: Butter is a key ingredient in many dishes, but the amount of saturated fat it contains can be frightening. Whenever possible, use canola or olive oil instead of butter when cooking. Being that butter has seven times more saturated fat than oil (yes, you read right, 7 times!), using these ingredients instead can drastically cut the amount of fat in your favorite dishes.

Go easy on the cream: Dishes like pasta that are accompanied with a thick sauce can be loaded with fat from a copious amount of heavy cream and butter. Although cream is a key ingredient in many sauces, making it hard to eliminate completely, you can use low-fat milk and flour to get the same result!

Minimize the grease: Deep frying foods has been a long time favorite approach for many foodies. Unfortunately, though, deep frying foods is one of the worst things you can do for your health. The next time you want to use your fryer, try the oven instead! For this approach, dip your food in milk, buttermilk or egg, then cover it with flour and breadcrumbs. Lastly, add a coat of canola or olive oil cooking spray. Once you’re done, stick everything in the oven at around 425-450 degrees Fahrenheit – this can significantly reduce your calorie and saturated fat intake!

In the end, eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to give up the foods you love most; switching out certain ingredients can truly make a world of difference!
