However, although a resolution like this can be easy to follow for the first week or two, it’s not uncommon for people to lose sight of their food related goals as the year progresses. But there has to be a way to achieve them, right? Of course there is, you just need a little know-how. See below for a list of tips to help you stick to any New Year’s Resolutions you have where food is involved.

Be Realistic When Goal Setting

Don’t get too ahead of yourself when deciding on what you’d like to accomplish – even if you’re 100% committed, unrealistic goals are pretty difficult to reach. So, if you’re trying to cut out snacking for example, don’t try to quit cold turkey. Instead, eliminate one or two snacks at a time until you’re free of the snacking habit.

Enlist Someone To Work With You

If you know someone who has a similar goal, enlist their help! Working with a friend or family member can make it much easier for you to stick to your New Year’s Resolution since you will have someone other than yourself motivating you all the time. Hope to make healthier home cooked meals? Sit down with your buddy to plan a menu for yourselves each week – working side by side can keep you both on track.

Write Things Down

From the initial goal to each step you’ve made towards reaching it, keep a record of anything regarding your New Year’s Resolution. Although it requires a bit more effort than just thinking or saying it, having a tangible document that you can read over and over again can help encourage you to keep going. Additionally, recording your progress can help you figure out if you’re going in the right or wrong direction.

Over the next couple of months, it’s also important to remember that you don’t need to achieve your goals overnight – that means, don’t get discouraged if you have a tough time sticking to them in the beginning! So long as your plan is realistic, over time you’ll find that it’s much easier to stick to.
