Although Valentine’s Day is primarily considered a holiday for couples, your parents, children, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends (and for those of you with fur babies – your pets) all deserve some love too. So, whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day with one person or a group of people, part of your job is to figure out a way to make it special! An idea that we have? Start the morning by bringing someone breakfast in bed – and by breakfast, of course we mean pancakes.
Below, learn how to make heart-shaped pancakes for this heart-filled holiday:
Step 1: Add pancake mix and other required ingredients (this may differ depending on the brand and type of mix you use) into a large bowl.
Step 2: Pour the batter into two separate bowls – batter should be divided evenly amongst them.
Step 3: Add some red food coloring to one of the bowls and stir until all of the batter has turned a pink/red color.
Step 4: Prepare your pan and begin cooking the pancakes as you normally would. At this stage, it is important that you make the same number of pancakes from each bowl of batter.
Step 5: Allow the freshly cooked pancakes to cool for at least two minutes on a cooling rack.
Step 6: Place your pancakes on a cutting board one at a time, and, using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, begin cutting out a heart from the middle of each full pancake.
For those of you who want to just enjoy pancakes in the shape of a heart, your work is done after completing step number 6 – just mix up your different colored hearts on a plate and serve! But, if you want to be a bit more creative, continue to step 7.
Step 7: Take the red hearts you made and place them into the center of the white pancakes. Then, take all of the white hearts you made and place them in the center of the red pancakes. This will leave you with a full sized pancake with a heart design in the middle!
And that’s it! Pancakes are a delicious breakfast to be surprised with, but when you make pancakes that reflect the holiday, you can bet the surprise will be even sweeter.
