Mastering Meatloaf | Chip's Family Restaurant

Ah, meatloaf. For some of you, it’s a blessing to find a few slices of it on your plate. For others, it’s an indication to call the local takeout restaurant. If you fall into the latter category, we’re going to let you in on a few pro tips that will have you diving back in for seconds. See below to find out how to take your average meatloaf recipe and kick it up to the next level:

The first tip is to use a mixture of ground meats. Sure, you can stick to ground beef if you’d like but we recommend mixing ground beef, pork and veal for extra flavor. Then you can move on to the seasonings.

Mix seasoned bread crumbs, 1 whole egg, 1 small vidalia onion chopped finely, 1 teaspoon of sea salt, ¼ teaspoon of ground black pepper, 4 tablespoons of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of barbecue sauce and ½ cup of whole milk into the ground meat mixture.

Once all ingredients are mixed in, place into a baking dish and smooth out the top. Feel free to add a bit more ketchup and barbecue sauce to the top of the loaf before putting in the oven for additional flavor.

Bake at 350°F for about an hour or until done. You may want to cut a slice about 60 minutes in to check for doneness. If it’s still pink on the inside, check again in a few more minutes.

With this recipe, you can look forward to meatloaf once again! You may even want to share it with your friends and family members so they too, can appreciate a delicious meal. And if you can’t seem to get it to come out right, you can always head over to any of our 5 locations and try ours out!
