3 Top Reasons To Make Time For Family Dinner

Johnny has baseball practice. Emily has dance rehearsal. Billy has a tutoring session after school. With so many things going on during the week it can be very difficult to find the time to sit down for dinner with everyone present. But despite everyone’s busy schedules, it’s important to eat dinner together at least a few times a week – here’s why:

3 Top Reasons To Make Time For Family Dinner | Chip's Family Restaurant

    1. It Helps Kids “Say No”: in a study conducted by the CASA, teens who have fewer than three family dinners a week are 3.5 times more likely to have abused prescription drugs and to have used illegal drugs other than marijuana. “While substance abuse can strike any family, regardless of ethnicity, affluence, age, or gender, the parental engagement fostered at the dinner table can be a simple, effective tool to help prevent it,” says Elizabeth Planet, one of the report’s researchers.

    1. Better Food = Better Grades: 20% of kids who eat with their family less than three times a week received Cs or lower on their report cards compared to only 9% of teens who eat with their families regularly. Believe it or not, kids tend to pick up on “adult” conversations and it can help build their vocabulary.

  1. Better Family Relationships: eating meals together tends to help build stronger family bonds. It provides a daily time for the whole family to chat with one another and to spend time together after a day full of work and school. Take time to ask about each other’s day and share stories about the events that unfolded.

With that said, you don’t always have to eat family dinners at home. Don’t feel like cooking? We’ve got you covered. Bring the whole family down to Chip’s Family Restaurant!
