Fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, hash browns and eggs in every style…what’s not to like about breakfast?

It probably goes without saying that here at Chip’s Family Restaurant we are huge fans of the first meal of the day. For years, the general belief has been breakfast is essential to starting your day right and should never be skipped. However, recent studies are suggesting that breakfast might not be particularly important to overall health, and dare we say it, may not even be necessary.  It’s time to end this debate once and for all.

A leading argument in favor of breakfast says eating shortly after waking up kickstarts your metabolism. However, all bodies are different, and routines vary. People who eat breakfast everyday should continue to do so. For those who skip it; it may work best with their schedule, but they must allocate those extra calories into the rest of their meals.

A popular fitness phenomenon that supports delaying breakfast is intermittent fasting. The most common way to go about this is to fit all your meals within an 8-hour time span. This often means breakfast becomes brunch when your first meal is at noon, and your final meal is eaten before 8 p.m. Intermittent fasters report feeling more energized, losing weight and not struggling with hunger at all. This is probably one of the biggest arguments supporting the idea that breakfast is not the most important meal.

Do you remember how often teachers would stress eating breakfast before a big test? That’s because breakfast is the perfect way to jumpstart your day and wake up your mind. Eating a meal in the morning replenishes the glucose that your body lost overnight resulting in an energy boost. When you go without breakfast, your body is starved for energy which may result in low performance and less healthy food choices for the rest of the day. Many common breakfast foods contain healthy nutrients that can power your brain and improve performance.

In conclusion, everybody is different. So, do what works best for you! Starting your day off with a healthy and fulfilling meal might be just what you need to have a productive and successful day. For others, waiting until noon works just fine. Whether you are a fan of eating first thing in the morning or fasting until lunch, Chip’s has all your breakfast favorites all day long and brunch on the weekends!
