Following a healthy diet and making the right choices are both extremely important, but whose to say that what you’re currently doing right now is good or bad? Chances are you’ve researched some tips online or talked with your friends about their strategy, but the fact of the matter here is that this could be causing you to get caught up in some nutrition myths – below, we list a few that just simply aren’t true.
Myth #1: Frozen fruits and vegetables are not as nutritious.
While it’s best to munch on fresh produce as often as you can, if the situation calls for you to whip up frozen fruits and vegetables instead, that’s just fine. Since frozen fruits and veggies are usually frozen shortly after being picked, for the most part they still contain the nutrients you need.
Myth #2: You must count your calories to lose weight.
Not necessarily! Truth is, it’s not all about how many calories you consume, but rather it’s about where you’re getting your calories from. For example, eating 200 calories worth of cookies and candies is not nearly the same as eating 200 calories of vegetables – what’s most important is that you eat the foods that contain the nutrients and vitamins you need.
Myth #3: Eggs aren’t actually good for you.
False again. Although a lot of people have come to believe that eggs aren’t good for you, they DO contain many of the nutrients our body needs – especially protein! While this doesn’t necessarily mean you should eat an entire carton a day, it is important to realize that eggs are not something to be afraid of.
Myth #4: You have to stop eating after a certain time.
Similar to myth #2, it’s not really about how late you’re eating, it’s about what you’re eating at that time (and what you’re eating in general all day long). In fact, a problem that some people face when they don’t allow themselves to eat when they feel hungry (even if it’s late at night) is that they become starved and overeat later on.
Myth #5: Some diets are better to try than others.
Since all of our bodies are different and require different needs to be met, the simple answer here is: no, there are not diets that are better than others – in a generalized sense, that is. A diet may work better for you personally compared to another one, but that doesn’t mean it’s the answer for everyone else.
Although it can be easy to get wrapped up in what other people make out to be true, your best bet is to do your own research and create a strategy that works for you when it comes to being healthy.
