It’s been well-established that you should never skip breakfast. In fact, it’s been regarded as the most important meal of the day for years. But did you know that you shouldn’t be skipping lunch either? It can be easy to bypass lunch for a variety of reasons; you’re too tired, you have too much work to get done or you’re simply not hungry. However, there are a number of negative effects on your body if you decide to skip your mid-day meal.
You Starve Yourself of Fuel: your body needs fuel to keep running – it’s kind of like an automobile. When you decide to skip meals, your tank can run dry which can lead to a decrease in brain function. When you digest food, your brain produces glucose which is the body’s largest source of fuel. Without it, you’ more likely to feel sluggish and you lose the ability to store new information and retrieve old information.
You’re More Likely To Overeat:
when you skip lunch, chances are you’ll be “starving” when dinner time rolls around. This can cause you to go in for seconds, thirds, or even fourths and your body isn’t used to processing that much food at once. Eating at least three meals a day can help you ward off cravings and eat less later on which helps keep your metabolism running at an appropriate rate.
You Have a Higher Risk of Gaining Weight:
sure, the overeating at dinner thing has a lot to do with it, but it really boils down to messing with your metabolism. As your metabolism slows, your body stores more calories as it goes into “survival mode” and we all know that calories can cause you to pack on the pounds.
